Guy has lived in Hackney for 20 years and in Chatham ward for 13 years. He worked in the theatre industry for over 20 years in the UK and abroad. He became an elected Councillor in 1998 and since 2002 has been the full time Cabinet member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

He has worked to bring about funding into Hackney and strengthen our relationships and position with London’s Mayor, our national Government and our partner agency’s and organisations, to bring forward additional investment into our Borough. He has brought about Regeneration initiatives across the Borough and establishing Hackney’s place within the London 2012 project, ensuring that these initiatives contribute to and enhance our own Labour led investment into our neighbourhoods, our open spaces, our built environment and our diverse communities. This includes the ongoing improvements to our Borough’s railways and the new London Overground project, strengthening and supporting Hackney’s enterprise economy and our business support intiatives, bringing forward training and job opportunities for residents, developing our Borough’s Planning and Land Use policies, placing Hackney in a position to benefit from and contribute to the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games; a third of the 2012 Olympic Park sitting within Hackney; he has contributed to supporting and strengthening our Arts and Cultural community ensuring that London recognises and invests into our diverse and creative talent in both the commercial and community sectors.

He has built on Hackney’s reputation as a progessive, tolerant, dynamic and creative place, a tradition that has evolved over many generations of residents. Placeing Hackney at the heart of London and the 2012 initiative, and to use this to bring about a legacy for our Borough to thrive in and be proud of.
