Clissold Labour councillors Karen Alcock and Linda Smith have welcomed the launch of the world's first ever hybrid double-decker bus on
route 141, which runs from Palmers Green to London Bridge, through Clissold.
Hybrid buses, which use a combination of diesel and electric power, are central to the plans for a cleaner, greener bus fleet, and
will contribute to cutting carbon dioxide emissions in Hackney and across the capital.
This inaugural service comes after the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone recently announced plans for an increased hybrid bus fleet for the
capital.
Karen said "it is great news that buses through Clissold are leading the world in becoming more environmentally friendly, and shows the
commitment of Labour's Mayor Ken Livingstone to a cleaner, greener public transport network. This complements the work of Hackney's Labour Council in introducing the greenest refuse fleet in
London, and its work to get Council workers out of their cars and into greener forms of transport."
Linda added "it is only through a Labour Council, working with a Labour London Mayor and a Labour Government that we can start to take the steps to tackle
climate change - and the first ever hybrid double-decker bus is a great example of that. Other parties might talk the talk on the environment, but only Labour is making Hackney
greener."
