Cllr Oli de
Botton
Oli is 29 and lives in the ward on Queen’s Drive. He has lived
in Hackney for seven years. He runs in Clissold Park and Finsbury
Park – or just relaxes there when feeling less energetic; and uses
other local services such as John Scott Health Centre on Green
Lanes.
Oli is a teacher by profession and spent nearly five years working
at a secondary comprehensive in Enfield. He currently works for an
education charity.
Oli is proud that Brownswood was the first ward to introduce
compulsory recycling and that we have a great Safer Neighbourhoods
team that respond quickly to concerns, particularly around
anti-social behaviour.
Oli is a School Governor at Parkwood Primary School in the Ward, a
member of Unite, and sits on the Community and Police Panel.
If elected, his priorities are helping local schools provide an
excellent education for all Hackney children; supporting the
regeneration and refurbishment of local estates; and making the
borough greener so that we can live in a more sustainable way.
Cllr Brian
Bell
Brian Bell has been a Labour Councillor for Brownswood Ward since
2002.
Aged 41, Brian lives in the ward on Green Lanes, near the Castle,
and has lived and worked in Hackney for the last twenty years. For
the last eight years he has chaired the Governors at Parkwood
Primary School on Queens Drive, which was the second best in the
whole country at adding value to children's education last
year!
He also chairs the steering group of residents and the council
which has overseen the refurbishment of Kings Crescent, and is
seeking funding to complete the redevelopment.
Brian also set up the Borough's Community Safety Partnership which
brings together the council, police and other agencies, to tackle
crime and anti-social behaviour.
Cllr Feryal
Demirci
Feryal Demirci has been a Labour Councillor for Brownswood Ward
since 2006.
Feryal has lived in Hackney for 21 years. She is a member of the
Unison trade union. She uses a range of local facilities including
the libraries, the Lido, and Clissold Park, where one of the
biggest Kurdish/Turkish festivals takes place every year, Daymer
Festival.
She is Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and has led inquiries into
adolescent mental health in Hackney and child poverty in Hackney.
Currently she is leading a review of Hackney’s youth provision.
As a Member on the Board of Hackney Homes she helped achieve a “2
star” rating, securing millions of pounds to improve local social
housing.
Feryal has worked closely with the Manor Estate TRA to secure
funding for summer youth projects, which allowed children from
local estates to make use of the climbing centre and canoeing at
the reservoir. She is proud of having helped set up a new Tenants
and Residents Association on Middleton Grange Estate.
Feryal’s top priorities if re-elected are regenerating housing in
the ward, improving local schools and youth facilities, and
community safety.
