Local Residents Get Planting in London Fields

Queensbridge residents came out in force on a freezing cold Saturday lunchtime to help plant hundreds of bulbs in London Fields.

This was the first phase in a community project being organised and run by local resident Ros Brewer. Ros says she just wants to get more people smiling as they look at the lovely flowers that will hopefully be produced in the Fields.

Residents - with the help of staff from the Hackney parks department - planted spring flowering bulbs along the main path from the Lido towards Martello Terrace. These bulbs should flower every spring for many years and eventually naturalise and do their "own thing" after a few years.

The bulbs included daffodils and crocuses which both like sunshine to flower at their best.

The group also have a plan to sow a colourful wild meadow in the area adjacent to the Lamb Lane cycle way.

Local Queensbridge Councillor Tom Price said: "It was great to see so many families involved in helping make London Fields a brighter place.

"I'd really like to give my thanks to the organisers of this event for their effort and determination."

If anyone would like any more information about this project or to get involved then please contact Tom at tom.price@hackney.gov.uk and he will happily put you in touch with the organisers.
