Soraya grew up in Hackney and went to Woodberry Down School. She is an active resident representative for her estate, and attends her local Community Advisory Panel meetings to make sure residents’ concerns about crime and anti social behavior are raised. Soraya is also a member of Homerton NHS Trust.
Soraya works in local government and has covered a range of policy areas including learning disabilities, regeneration and governance services.
Soraya’s priorities include ensuring that all local residents are represented and can contribute to the discussions taking place as Dalston continues to change. She is particularly interested in planning, licensing, environmental enhancement, increasing affordable housing and provision for young people.
Peter Snell is an Environmental Health Practitioner who has lived in Dalston for 30 years where he uses his house as a model for energy saving measures.
Peter is on the steering group of Sustainable Hackney and is coordinator of the London Environmental Health and Housing Network. He is a volunteer with the Age UK advocacy service based on Dalston Lane and organised a series of walks, talks and discussions on “Making a difference” as part of the Dalston Peoples Festival organised by Hackney Unites in July.
Peter believes that Dalston residents deserve more community benefits from the current development activity. For 30 years he has campaigned with the community and worked on Housing, Planning & Regeneration for Newham Council so hopes to get Dalston the best deal possible under the Coalition Government if elected as a Hackney councillor.
