Laura has lived in Hackney since she first moved to London eight years ago. Hackney has changed significantly in this time, and Laura is standing for the Council to help ensure that Hackney's development, creativity and growth brings opportunities for everyone.
Laura currently works on social justice and welfare policy and has previously led work to improve local public services, health and social care.
Laura's priorities are challenging inequality, raising the quality and affordability of housing, promoting local public health services and improving support for children and young families. If elected, she wants to work closely with De Beauvoir residents to bridge interactions we the Council and take forward our community's concerns and ideas.
James is a solicitor and a governor of a Hackney school for pupils with severe learning difficulties.
He is standing for a seat on Hackney Council representing the ward of De Beauvoir because he wants to become more involved in the community around him and to help his neighbours by contributing to the good functioning of Hackney's local government.
James’ priorities, if elected as a councillor, will be to support the Council in providing high quality services to the people of Hackney, to work to safeguard vulnerable citizens in the face of Central Government cuts, and to be of assistance to De Beauvoir residents when interacting with the Council and other public bodies.
