Margaret Gordon

Margaret lives in Upper Clapton with her husband and three children, who all attend local schools and take part in local community clubs. 

She has represented Lea Bridge Ward since 2014, having previously been a Councillor for Springfield and has been an active local councillor. She has worked particularly to encourage the engagement of residents in the community and supported sustainable development initiatives in the ward particularly in relation to bringing back historic buildings into use for the benefit of the community.

As a long term resident in Clapton she is very excited to be able to take part in the development of a neighbourhood plan which will allow residents to shape the future development of our area.

She serves as Trustee of the Hackney Almshouse Charity who provides low cost supported housing to local residents. She serves as vicechair of the Children and Young People's Scrutiny Commission and she is passionate that all of Hackneys children should have access to good quality comprehensive education.

 

Deniz Oguzkanli

Deniz has represented Leabridge ward since 2006. He also lives in the ward he represents with his wife and two children. He is a keen supporter of local initiatives and passionate about Hackney because of its unique qualities and multi cultural society.  

He is keen to support sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives in the local area. He supports Chatsworth road market and neighbourhood plan and is very keen on engaging with all of the residents in the community.  

 

Ian Rathbone

Ian Rathbone has been a councillor for Leabridge ward since 2002 and has worked hard to build up the community and improve the environment in the ward, from Millfields Park and the River Lea to Clapton Pond and Pond House. He is Chair of Clapton Pond Neighbourhood Action Group (CPNAG).

He founded Chatsworth Road market and helped to set up Chatsworth Road Area Neighbourhood Community Plan and Forum, and is very keen on engaging with all of the residents in the community. He believes that all residents should have a stake and have a say in the future development of the area. He has been a school governor for more than 30 years, and currently a Governor of Southwold school and two other Hackney schools, and believes in school providing the best opportunity for children to achieve their full potential.

He is passionate about Fairtrade as a means of helping the developing world, and has been Fairtrade Champion for Hackney. He founded the Hackney Holocaust Memorial Day, remembering victims of genocide and commemorating those who survived.

He is also chair of Hackney Community Law Centre and campaigning to improve legal aid services and general advice in the borough.
