Meg has been MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch for 12 years.
She has championed Hackney on Europe, housing, health and education.
She was a junior Government Minister at the Home Office (2007–10) and was Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change until 2011.
In 2015 Meg was elected chair of Parliament's powerful public spending watchdog the Public Accounts Committee.
Since then she has exposed the Government's underfunding of the NHS, failure on housing and cuts to schools, and established the need for more transparency and accountability of corporate companies and their tax affairs in the UK.
She says: “Labour believes in opportunity for all. Under the Tories it's getting harder and harder for people to climb the ladder of opportunity: house prices rocketing, increasing student debt, no more cash help for nurses to train and empty promises on apprenticeships.
“I voted against the Tories' hard Brexit plans. I will fight for access to the single market to protect businesses, jobs and our young people's future. I will push for certainty for EU citizens to stay in Hackney. We cannot allow the Tories to railroad through a hard Brexit.
“My record shows I will stand up for Hackney.”
