Welcome to my November to January Mayor’s Report
Welcome to my November to January Mayor’s Report.
Let me first wish everyone a Happy New Year.
Like many members and councilors I took part in last Saturday’s national campaign day to support the NHS. We now how important defending the NHS is locally, and have clearly stated our concerns about the North East London Sustainability and Transformation Plan. Only this week Cllr McShane and I met with both the Independent Chair of the STP and the Chair of the Homerton to discuss these plans and also the Pathlab at the Homerton. We will be developing our response to the governance arrangements and fully take on board the concerns expressed by local campaigners.
I know there is a lot of interest in divesting and Hackney Council’s Pensions Committee is taking further steps towards a fossil free pension fund after approving ambitious plans to cut the fund’s exposure to future CO2 emissions. Cllr Robert Chapman, Chair of the Committee has blogged about their work.
Finally I am really pleased to support, alongside Hackney’s MPs, the Hackney Gazette’s #HiddenHomeless Campaign, there is more about it below, but it is good to see the paper highlighting and campaigning on such an important local issue. Cllr Rebecca Rennison, Mayoral Adviser for Advice and Preventing Homelessness has blogged about our response to rough sleeping and some of these issues.
