Soraya Adejare

Soraya has been a councillor since 2014, her Brownswood candidacy bringing her back to the area she grew up and resides in.

She has always worked to ensure the voices of residents are heard at every level of decision making. Within this she has supported preservation of a community garden, developed a community round table forum and dealt with the complexities of anti-social behaviour.

She began her early employment as a youth worker in Hackney, later becoming a teacher. Her experience is such that she understands nuanced eventualities across the social spectrum; this drives her activism in respect of eradicating inequalities.  Her campaign work includes combatting violence against women and girls, fighting racism in all its forms, and securing rights for renters.

She has always played a role in the Brownswood community and is focussed on community building activities. She is committed to ensuring that residents feel the ward is welcoming, sustainable, fair, and safe for all.
