Penny Wrout for Victoria Ward

I’ve been a proud Hackney resident since the
early 90s and I’ve lived in Victoria Ward for 13
years. I love it, but I’m also aware of problems
locally. I see a growing wealth gap, and the efect
that has on housing and homelessness is of huge
concern, with local people priced out.
My daughter’s primary education was in the
ward and I fought for our new secondary school.
I see the quality and special character of our
schools threatened by government austerity. I’m
also worried about air quality, with main roads
running though Victoria to the motorway.
This by-election is a great opportunity to work
with local people, building on Hackney Labour’s
ideas to tackle these issues but it’s also a moment
to hear residents’ concerns. My professional life
has been spent working to increase diversity in
the media. I’m really keen to speak for Victoria
Ward and ensure our voice is heard.
