HACKNEY Labour is challenging NHS bosses planning to take away the local pathology service (‘Path Labs’) from Homerton Hospital and put it in Barts, central London.
Threatened: Homerton Hospital Path Labs
Labour says that this will –
HIT treatment for new-born babies from across North East London.
HIT A&E services for medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies
HIT the capacity of Homerton Hospital to admit patients.
Hackney Labour spell out the message – ‘Keep NHS services local’
Labour is campaigning against this proposal with the slogan – ‘Hands off our Path Labs’ – and insisting that NHS services are kept on our doorstep.
The Labs are concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on laboratory analysis of bodily fluids such as blood and urine – an essential part of diagnosis for every patient and for maintaining fast and effective levels of care.
Threatened: Neonatal unit at Homerton Hospital
“I have grave concerns about the impact the proposals will have on the health of our residents,” said Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care.
“I call on NHS England to reconsider their proposals and work with the Council to develop pathology facilities in Homerton to safeguard the future of our health services.”
Threatened: Accident and Emergency Dept, Homerton Hospital
A Hackney Labour spokesperson added: “There is a real risk of our Path Lab being privatised and this is already occurring in other parts of the country. If we don’t fight now, we stand to lose even more of what is our public service, as is being evidenced elsewhere in London and the UK.”
