Leisure for everyone - a new Britannia

New_Britannia.JPG

The green light has been given for the council to build a new leisure centre to replace Britannia - a 40 year old facility. The proposal will replace the existing facilities to a higher quality and more modern standard, increasing the number of facilities such as the number of swimming lanes.

The sale of new private homes, will be required to deliver the leisure centre, new school and genuinely affordable homes on a ‘local first’ policy. By taking these steps sales on the international market will be restricted. The existing facility will remain open to the public and will only close when the new Britannia is up and running, causing no disruption to centre users.

The new Britannia will be open to all members of the community and priority will not be given to new residents in the adjacent development. A new school, which will provide 1,100 places, will give priority to pupils who live closest to the site and local ‘feeder’ primary schools. The new school will not rely on new leisure centre for sports classes.
