Steve Race

Steve Race has been Labour councillor for Hoxton East & Shoreditch since 2018.

As councillor, Steve supports residents with casework enquiries and issues such as housing repairs. Steve and his ward colleagues hold two resident surgeries a month, and along with his colleagues, is often knocking on doors to talk to local people.

Steve chairs the Colville Estate Regeneration Sub-Committee, made up of residents and council officers, who steer the regeneration of the Colville Estate; he is also supporting residents to set up a new Shoreditch Park User Group. Steve is a Trustee of the Shoreditch Town Hall Trust, which provides cultural and arts programmes for local people; and a Trustee of Kench Hill, which provides an outdoor venue in the Kent countryside for Hackney children.

Some of Steve’s highlights of the last four years include the opening of the new Britannia Leisure Centre and seeing it so well-used by local people; the opening of the new BRAFA Square, Hackney’s first new public square in decades; and the repainting of the Hoxton Family statue which he secured funding for.
